The study is a randomized control trial (RCT) that randomized assignment to the Embrace Mothers treatment and business-as-usual (BAU) control. Treatment and control samples were randomly selected after screening eligibility from a pool of more than 8,000 applicants for the study. Eligible study participants were Birmingham, Alabama residents who were single mothers aged 18 or older. There were no income requirements for participation. Both assignment and analysis were conducted at the individual level. There were 21 applicants who were randomly selected for the treatment condition but did not recieve any guaranteed income. However, to ensure an intent-to-treat analysis, these participants were included in the anaytical treatment group.
